Throwball Court Measurement
A throwball court for seniors, youth and juniors measures 18.30 m × 12.20 m; sub-junior and mini courts are 15.30 m × 9.20 m. The net is 2.30 m high for seniors and youth, 2.20 m for juniors and 2.00 m for sub-juniors and mini. Source: the Throwball Federation of India.
Court size and net height
| Category | Court (length × width) | Net height |
|---|---|---|
| Seniors (men & women) | 18.30 × 12.20 m | 2.30 m |
| Youth | 18.30 × 12.20 m | 2.30 m |
| Juniors (boys & girls) | 18.30 × 12.20 m | 2.20 m |
| Sub-juniors (boys & girls) | 15.30 × 9.20 m | 2.00 m |
| Mini | 15.30 × 9.20 m | 2.00 m |
From the Throwball Federation of India’s court page. The senior court covers 18.30 × 12.20 = 223.26 m² and the sub-junior court 15.30 × 9.20 = 140.76 m² (our arithmetic).
What the court page leaves to the rule book
The federation publishes the court size and net heights on its court page and refers to its full rule book for the court markings and the specification of materials. Figures for the internal markings — such as any zone either side of the net and the service area — circulate widely online without a source; take them from the current TFI rule book for the competition level you are building for, rather than from a copied diagram.
Sharing a court with volleyball
Throwball is often played on school and college multi-courts, frequently on the same ground as volleyball. The two courts are not interchangeable:
- A volleyball court is 18 × 9 m (FIVB). The senior throwball court is 0.30 m longer and 3.20 m wider (our arithmetic), so throwball lines cannot sit inside volleyball lines — plan the throwball court first and fit volleyball within it.
- Net heights differ by sport and age group — 2.43 m and 2.24 m for volleyball (men and women, FIVB) against 2.30 m, 2.20 m and 2.00 m for throwball — so a shared court needs posts whose net height can be adjusted.
- Use one line colour per sport so that players and officials can read the court.
Our Volleyball Court Dimensions guide has the full FIVB figures, and School Sports Infrastructure covers planning courts that get used across a timetable.
