Sports Complex Design
A sports complex is not a collection of courts on a site. It is a set of movement systems that must not collide, a land budget that has to survive value engineering, and a facility mix that decides whether the place is busy on a Tuesday morning or only on match day. We design that system — and show it in three dimensions before anyone commits to it.
Three decisions settle most projects long before anything is detailed. The facility mix — which sports, at what level, for whom; a complex built around one flagship venue is idle six days a week, while one built around a realistic weekday user carries its own running cost. The land budget — run-off, circulation, spectator capacity, parking, service and plant typically consume more site than the sports themselves. The movement diagram — athletes, spectators and service each need a route that does not cross the others at the moments that matter.
01 Brief and utilisation logic. We start from who uses the place on an ordinary weekday, not from the event-day render — facility mix, session capacity, and the operating pattern the client will actually staff.
02 Site reading and land-area budgeting. Constraints, orientation, access and levels; every facility carried at playing area plus run-off plus circulation, then tested against the site before any layout is fixed.
03 Zoning and master plan. Athlete, spectator and service systems separated; arrival sequence and spectator capacity resolved; phasing set so phase one is a complete facility rather than a fragment.
04 Conceptual architecture. Built form, envelope, structure logic, daylight strategy and materiality — resolved against buildability, not styled after it.
05 3D visualisation. The scheme communicated in three dimensions for approvals, boards, funding submissions and public consultation.
06 Design review. Where a scheme already exists, we review it against governing-body facility standards, movement logic and operating reality, and report what will not survive.
